I once spoke with a lady about our church and as we talked about various things she asked, “What does the Orthodox Presbyterian Church believe?” I gave her a quick rundown of our church’s position which went something like, “we believe: the Bible is the Word of God, the trinity, virgin birth, the sinlessness of Christ Jesus, his atonement for sin, bodily resurrection and second coming.” The lady politely responded, “Yes, all evangelical churches believe that, but that doesn’t really tell me what your church is about.” That was an insightful observation, from my perspective anyway. If I may borrow a little, the biblical truths which follow are what Covenant Grace is “all about.” That means they will be noticeable in the songs that are sung, the prayers that are prayed and the sermons that are preached from Sunday to Sunday.
WHAT WE BELIEVE:
God We believe and confess that God is sovereign over all his creation, and that from all eternity God in his wisdom, love, goodness, and holiness ordained whatsoever comes to pass. Gen 1:1; 50:20; Ex. 15:18;
Neh. 9:32-33; Psa. 93; 115:3; 145:7; Dan. 4:34-35; Matt. 10:29-31; Acts 15:18;
Rom. 8:28-30; Eph. 1:11; 1 Tim. 1:17; James 1:17.
We also believe in the Trinity. There is one God who exists eternally in three Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are one God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory. Deut. 6:4; Isa. 44:6; Mark 1:10-11; Matt. 28:19; John 1:1,
14-15; Acts 5:3-4; 1 Cor. 8:4,6; 2 Cor 13:14; Eph 2:18.
Jesus We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who became man and lived and died and rose again to atone for the sins of those who trust in Him alone for their salvation. Matt. 1:23; John 1:1-18; Rom 9:5; Phil. 2:5-6; Col 1:15-17;
2:9; 1 Tim. 2:5; Heb 1:1-12; 2:14-17.
Man We believe that God created Adam and Eve in knowledge, righteousness and holiness. Adam and Eve broke God's law, and the guilt of their sin was imputed to their offspring. All people are sinners and therefore guilty before God and totally unable to save themselves or even cooperate with God in efforts to earn their salvation. Gen 3:6-8; 6:5;1 Kings 8:46; Psa. 51:5; Jer. 17:9; John 6:44; Rom 3:9-23;
Eph. 2:1,5; Col
2:13.
The Bible We believe that the Bible is the written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is our infallible and divine authority in all matters of faith and life. Psa. 19:7-11; John 17:17; 20:31; 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet 1:19-21;
1 John 5:9 Rev 22:18-19.
Salvation We believe that salvation is by God's action alone, who sovereignly chooses out of the fallen race of mankind those whom He will save. God alone saves the people whom He draws to Jesus by His Holy Spirit. He convinces them of their sin and enlightens them so that they repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as He is offered in the Gospel. Because God alone knows who are His, we call on people everywhere to repent and to trust in Jesus Christ. Acts 13:48; Rom 8:7-9; 9:9-16; 1 Cor. 2:14; 2 Cor. 3:3,6; Eph.
2:5,8; Titus 3:5 Heb. 9:28; 1 Pet. 1:3-5.
